Not a Love Story
When I first landed on the most known platform job-related, I expected a place where I could find only job-related posts with no personal remarks, political tirades or public professions of faith. To my surprise, what I found there was something altogether different and my experience was not pleasant at all.
Not only did I have to read a heap of boring posts about people showing off their skills without being able to save my time: I had to put up with AI posts, AI images, awful patterns made by awful designers and, what is worse, all the jobs that the system sent me were absolutely unrelated to my skills. The hours I had to spend there were numberless. And what to say about their terrible AI articles full of platitudes and irrelevant remarks?
I stayed on that platform for about a year before my account was “temporarily suspended” due to who knows what terrible infraction to their policies. Nobody alerted me about the possibility of being suspended and nobody sent me an email describing my infraction. The help desk is available only for their paying clients and the procedures necessary to have one’s profile reactivated are long, brainy and require a mobile app, which I do not intend to have. Of course on the very day when my account was suspended, I was waiting for a client to contact me – and that client is lost forever because, no matter what I did to contact him, he never showed up. Maybe I bothered someone with my ideas, maybe my critiques were not welcome or maybe someone wanted to play me a dirty trick, I do not know. What I do know is I have got no way to go back to that platform.
For months I regretted the time I had to spend uselessly there but, you know, work is work and when one needs to work... In the past weeks, I even was contemplating the idea of leaving the platform at the beginning of the next year, after a full twelve-month period, but they acted quicker than me and I was done with in a twinkle of an eye. I took that as a sign of the weird sense of humour life has often shown me in my rather long life and I moved to somewhere else, where I hope nobody will make me read their rants about everything but work, I will be welcome and the system will respect my being there for work reasons.
