What is RhSD?

RhosaSpinaDesign is a brand, a concept and a style but, most importantly, it is a challenge. In a world afflicted by problems and inequalities of any kind, it is vital to offer spaces for acceptance, empathy and lack of judgment to anybody, anywhere, anytime, under any form.
Born from a personal troublesome experience, RhSD designs are packed with positivity. Their bold colour palettes and often unusual shapes and layouts may be the perfect match for people who choose never to give up.
Naive or sophisticated, RhSD designs are offered in a wide range of patterns for different occasions and different surfaces, so that anyone may find their style.

Who is RhSD?

RhosaSpinaDesign is an idea by Grazia Cavasino, an Italian artist and author plagued by fibromyalgia and other serious health problems who, one day, found herself unable to paint and draw like she used to.
Far from surrendering to the new unfavourable condition of her dominant hand, she tried a new way to express her creativity by using alterantively a rigid wrist brace on her right hand to paint and draw and her left hand to use the PC. This lead to a radical change in her painting style.
Her strong will, which many describe as stubbornness, led her to learn to paint in the new forced style and use graphic programmes all by herself.
The task she assigned to herself is neither easy nor painless but she is determined to never throw the towel – unless it is a towel with one of her patterns, in which case she would guard the towel as a trophy and a memory.

Why is RhSD?

What is imperfection? And what, conversely, is perfection? What is beauty? What is resilience? What is true wealth?
RhosaSpinaDesign is an attempt to provide an answer to these questions: a personal, thoughtful, intentionally lightweight answer to the big questions in life. When people are in deep trouble, they are faced with two options: either they do nothing or they roll up their sleeves and do something - no matter how difficult or hard or improbable this something may be… There are never guarantees to succeed, what is important is actually doing something.
By choosing an RhSD design you give yourselves the opportunity to do something: to say yes to life, to smile in the face of adversities and to cheer up. To embrace your pain and transform it, that is.

Where is RhSD?

RhosaSpinaDesign is based in Italy but it is a child of the world. Art and fashion, culture and taste for the good things in life are typical local signatures which are welcome and valued everywhere.
Of course, the greatest part of the artist’s background is European but her cultural education includes traditional Middle-East, Indian and Chinese philosophies and visual trends as well. Her fluency in English and her linguistic penchant for French and Spanish have unleashed her curiosity in many parts of the globe. As a self-educated artist, she never wanted to limit herself to a single trend or style to embrace elegant, joyful and vivid suggestions, no matter where they are from.
RhSD patterns are available on graphics selling and print-on-demand sites as well as licensed art.

When is RhSD?

RhosaSpinaDesign started in the first part of year 2024 but sprang from an idea that took twenty-five years to become real.
Back in August 1997, when arranging the logo for her starting craft workshop of mosaic and painted decorations, the artist heard about the surface pattern design profession for the first time. It was love at first sight: that idea settled in her mind despite the early closing of her activity and the numerous ups and downs she experienced later.
When in 2022, she found herself unemployed due to the lack of welfare cushion for fibromyalgia patients in Italy, she decided to bring to light that idea that had been just a dream for too long. She took advantage of her experience as a thirty-year watercolourist and started a new adventure as a surface pattern artist.
